"When I was running for Mayor of Los Angeles in March of 2009, I wanted to go to an RPLAC meeting and seek an endorsement. I was aware that David had been involved with the Party for much longer than I had. I offered to step aside, but David told me to go and ask for the endorsement. RPLAC ended up giving us a co-endorsement. It was one of the most noble, unselfish things I've ever seen anyone do. And this was from a man who had every reason not to do it. I will never forget it as long as I live.
